I received the highest compliment ever paid me last night after my workshop in Bulli, NSW. An elderly gentleman with tears in his eyes came up and told me that he had never “heard” music the way I described listening to the emotional content of the chords of a song. Today, that gentleman sent me this note:
Dear Mr. D’Ville,
I wish to thank you for an exciting, emotional evening. At eighty years of age with a lifetime of music behind me, no musical skills apart from an appreciation of the skills of composers and musicians, I did not anticipate the impact hearing music “in my head” would have for me. Your simple analogy of pointing to your head asking me to hear the music and bringing it down from the head into the arms and out of the ukulele was a magical moment. I thank you for your teaching skills. Apart from the daily task of breathing in and out you have given me the gift of learning the basic chord shapes and in my lifetime left of hearing the rhythms of life through music. Long may you prosper.
HI Jim…What a beautiful letter, and I don't think anyone could ever compliment you more sincerely or with such high regards.. Makes me wish somewhere near Albany NY was on your next stop! Thanks for sharing that, it gave me the warm fuzzies…
