Weekly Interval #13: Descending Minor 2nd

Posted on: January 15th, 2011 by dville

This week’s guest on the Weekly Interval is the descending Minor 2nd. Our ears are now beginning their journey back down the major scale. These descending intervals may not be as familiar to your ears so take some extra time in your ear training with them. Play the interval on you instrument. Spend a week with this interval, play it in different keys, different areas of the fretboard and listen for the melodies of familiar songs to jump out as you practice listening to the descending minor 2nd. If you do hear the melody to a song that starts with this interval other than those listed below post it in the comments section.

Key of C: Octave C to B
Solfege Syllables: Do-Ti (pronounced Doe-Tea)
1st string, 3rd fret to 1st string, 2nd fret
First two notes of:
Joy To The World
Fly Me To The Moon
The Lady Is A Tramp
Gary Owen
