Workshops In Berkeley? You Bet!

Posted on: June 21st, 2013 by dville

7963508_origBerkeley Farms, a dairy, used the image line “Farms, in Berkeley?” because farms is not first word that pops into one’s head when you think Berkeley, California.   But when you say DaSilva Ukulele Company,  the first thing folks think is ukulele workshops!  And that will be the case tomorrow, Saturday, June 22, 2013 as I will be presenting two of my most popular sing-a-long workshops, Hank & Buck By Ear, and 3 Chord Magic at Mike’s prestigious ukulele venue.

11am Hank & Buck By Ear (All Levels)
Hank Williams and Buck Owens were masters of the three chord form. Jim will lead the group through country standards from each artist including Jambalaya, Your Cheatin’ Heart, Hey, Good Lookin’, I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry, I’ve Got A Tiger By The Tail, My Heart Skips A Beat, Together Again, Foolin’ Round and more! You’ll not only learn the chord progressions to these classics by ear, you’ll learn about the hooks that made these songs famous. This workshop will also teach you about basic song structure and the Nashville Number System.

12:30pm 3 Chord Magic (Advanced Beginner & Up)
The three-chord song form is probably the most popular in Western music. In this workshop we’ll dissect a number of interesting variations of the progression beyond the I-IV-V7. Learning to hear the emotional quality of these chord progressions will dramatically improve your playing. We’ll play and sing a lot of fun and familiar tunes in the rock, pop and blues genres. Knowledge of basic chord shapes (C F G7 Dm Am Em) is helpful.
