Weekly Interval #4:
Ascending Major 3rd

Posted on: January 24th, 2011 by dville

This week’s guest on the Weekly Interval is the ascending Major 3rd. The 3rd is a very popular interval from both a melodic and harmonic perspective, and a great place to start a solo.  Remember to spend a week with this interval, play it in different keys, and listen for the melodies of familiar songs to jump out as you practice listening to the Major 3rd. If you do hear the melody to a song that starts with this interval post it in the comments section.

Key C: C to E
Solfege Syllables: Do-Mi (pronounced Doe-Me)
Open 3rd string to open 2nd string
First two notes of:
C Major Chord
Michael, Row The Boat Ashore
When The Saints Go Marching In
I Could Have Danced All Night
Kumbaya
