The Circle #3:
The Major Scale Half

Posted on: December 11th, 2011 by dville

The-Circle WebWelcome to The Circle, our voyage into the mysteries of The Circle of 5ths. Looking at a full Circle of 5ths without knowing how to use it can be intimidating.

Full Circle

The great news is, most of the time we are only using half of the circle at a time!  Let’s say we want to learn about the Key of C Major.  We simply mask off all the sharps and flats and what’s left are the notes of the C Major Scale.

1:2 Circle

Observation: You can mask off half of the Circle of 5ths to find the notes contained in any Major Scale.

Nice tip! I'd never spotted that before. I'm wondering if you could do a summary post at the end of the circle series briefly summarising what you've discussed in the other posts? It would help to bring all of the knowledge together.Any word on when 'The Natural Way' e-book will be out?
