The Redcliffe Rag

Posted on: December 28th, 2010 by dville

Spending the holidays on the soggy beaches of the Queensland coast has had its rewards! Having to entertain ourselves indoors, what else could we do but play ukuleles.  And on Christmas Eve day, Santa (or the muse) presented us with a new song!

The Redcliffe Rag is a homage to Redcliffe, the first European city founded in Queensland, Australia. Brisbane Ukulele Musicians Society Founder Sammy Lovejoy does a crackerjack job on vocals, and I collaborated on the lyrics with Danny Loyden who also plays guitars on the recording.  This is also my first recording with my new National NRP metal uke.

You may need a few translations to fully appreciate the lyrics:

Humpybong: Aboriginal term for Redcliffe
Tallabilla: Aboriginal term for dolphins
Four X stubby: Brand of beer in short bottle
