You can increase your picking speed by using a single-string approach utilizing your thumb and index finger as if you were holding a flat-pick. Simply alternate between the thumb and index finger in a T-I-T-I pattern. Try playing the C Major Scale starting with the thumb on the open 3rd string. Next pick the D note at the 3rd string, 2nd fret with the index finger. Drop the thumb to the 2nd string for the open E, then pick the F with your index and so on. Practice s-l-o-w-l-y and train the muscle memory. Learn to play both up and down the scale. Get this down and tomorrow we’ll move on to Part II.
