Name That Tune!

Posted on: July 25th, 2011 by dville

Here’s a variation on the old game show favorite Name That Tune.  Instead of guessing the name of a tune from hearing a snippet of the melody, I’ll give you a popular chord progression, you play it on your ukulele and see what song or songs pop into your head!

Let’s open up curtain number one to see what today’s mystery chord progression is!

Here’s how we play the game.  Pick a key, any key, and play through the progression.  In the key of C it would be C Major-E minor-F Major-G Major-C Major.  At first try two beats (strums) on each measure and see if any songs live there.  If none come to mind, try playing a full measure on each chord.  Humming along with the chords may also spark some song memories.

If you do come up with a song or two or three by playing and listening to the I-iii-IV-V-I progression send the titles to dville@teleport.com and we’ll post the correct answers, and randomly select one lucky winner from all correct entries.  This week’s prize, Play Ukulele By Ear Vol. 2 DVD: Chord Progressions & The Circle of 5ths and a circle of 5ths sticker!  Must be present to win, offer void in Antarctica.”
