Welcome First Time Visitors!

Greetings and welcome to Play Ukulele By Ear! The goal of the website is to provide you the tools to train your ears to hear what is going on in the music and play along. Please take a guided tour of the website by watching the below video.

Tuning With An A-440 Tuning Fork

Learning The Solfege Syllables
Solfege is a system of attributing a syllable to each tone in a musical scale. Why learn solfege? Getting to know the tones of the C Major Scale, for example, is best accomplished by becoming familiar with the voice of each tone. Can you recognize the familiar voice of a friend or loved one when they call on the phone? Of course, you can. And with a little solfege training, when the C tone rings (or any other note in the scale), you will immediately recognize it as the voice of an old friend. Find the pattern of the C Major Scale on your uke by ear starting on the open 3rd string and let your ears guide you using the solfege. Play and sing the syllables both up and down.
